Shoes of June 2004

Steve Madden

More Nordstrom Rack shoes. I'm not a bow fan, but there was something about these. The heel is wobble-worthy. The black and pink edging around the lucite straps is a unique and really cool design. And the little black and pink bow on top somehow manages to seem just a little punk rock. I'm not sure why. But I like them. I'd wear them with a black poplin skirt and a leather jacket.

Bargain of the day! These are $10.00 on Amazon. Yeah, they're just flip flops with fabulous lace-around-the-ankle straps, but flip flops definitely needed a better update than those kitten heels everyone else has been putting on them. Flip flops are meant to be comfortable and adding heels to them doesn't really make a lot of sense. Flip flops are also supposed to be just easy slip-ons, too, which means these shouldn't make sense. But I do like them. I'd wear them to the beach--where else?--for a bit of class while lying in the sand.

XOXO

Nordstrom Rack shoes. Very cute. Nice two-toned pink. Great contrasting cream-colored chunky heel. I really like the off-center point to the toe. And of course, the groovy big buckle. I'd wear these with a floaty white skirt and a pink top for an exceptionally girly look.

Color color color. Are you sick of my rhapsodies on color? But in yet another example, would these shoes be nearly as cool if they weren't such a lovely brilliant blue? And add the cream accents to the blue and you've got a lovely palette. They also have some nicely placed straps--no backstrap but the one near the ankle is far enough back that they stay on while you walk. A decent sized heel. And a very cute little button on the toestrap. I'd wear these with something Betty Grable-like--a polka-dot belted dress and some red lipstick.

Italian Shoemakers

I found these at Nordstrom Rack for $20. Couldn't pass them up. They're comfortable, nice curvy wedge. I like the cloth over the foot with just the little accent straps in leather. And there's a glittery shininess to the cloth. And of course the color is fabulous. They had them in black, too, but I couldn't resist the pink. I wore them today with a jean skirt and t-shirt to work. And my PMS color-changes-with-your-mood nailpolish, looking pretty purple here so I must be enjoying my new sandals.

At Ikea

I chased a woman down at Ikea for a picture of these. After several fuzzy pictures I gave up on being stealthy and turned the flash on. I'm still not sure if she knew I wasn't taking a picture of an Ivar or a Tullsta. I think more than the shoes themselves, I liked the fact that she was wearing them at Ikea, with a nice little slip dress. I do like their goldness--not too brash or flashy. They have an almost plastic look to them but I don't think they were. I really like the green nail polish. I'd wear these with a slip dress or a floaty 70's-ish skirt and a halter top.

Reaction Kenneth Cole

I went to an outlet mall this weekend. After buying 2 new pairs of shoes, I happened upon the brand new Kenneth Cole outlet. Imagine my glee...I tried not to drool. And as I sprinted to the back to the sale shoes, I saw these lovelies. These have the same fabulous heels that my new Kenneth Cole sandals have, solid though a little tall but comfortable. They didn't have a 10, but they had a 9 1/2 and I swear even if they hadn't fit, I'd have made them fit. But they worked. And they were 50% off. I love that they're just like my sandals only closed-toe and black. I even like the stitching. And these I can wear every day at work with tights. $25. I nearly skipped out the store. I was giddy. I was ready to return the other two pairs of shoes to buy more. I'm already itching to go back. I'll wear these with everything, black tights or bare, short skirts, long skirts...oh yeah.

Exil by Robert Clergerie

I now have even my parents taking pictures of shoes for me. They went to Seattle this weekend and apparently this shoe caught Mom's eye. The second pic is the one she took. I have to say, it's very interesting. Love the pink and white. The strange, fluid rubber or plastic base is peculiarly appealing. I like the way the top flaps overlap and are fastened with the little gold bauble, a touch reflected in the odd side flap. I'm not certain I understand these shoes but I think they're pretty cool. I'd wear them with a white A-line skirt and a white t-shirt with something funny on it.

As is often the case, I've been lured in by color. The style of these is fine, classic. Nice sling, nice open toe, great height and shape of the heel. The bow is a little, well, bow-y for me. But otherwise they're simple and attractive. But as I said, it's the color that got me. Such a fabulously unusual pinky coppery color, like rose gold or freshly-polished Revereware. It's lovely. I'd wear these with with brown trousers and a fitted top. Or a knee-length brown skirt with a slit up the side and a gold-toned tanktop. Maybe some gold hoops.
