These are funky, fun sandals. I love the natural wood; it gives a feel of hippie shoes, something worn in the 60's. But the style is very modern, very sculptural. The heel is unusual--solid and would be chunky if not for the cut out and beautifully curved. The smooth lines and cool wood remind me of furniture stores in the Northwest with white walls and unvarnished wood everywhere. These sandals have an elegance that grows the longer you look at them. I would wear these to a classy bar-b-q or a summer dinner on a restaurant deck looking out on the ocean. I would wear a pale pink linen dress and a white scarf over my hair. I would look cooly elegant but not stuffy in the summer heat.

Incidentally, Steve Madden stepped down as CEO of the company due to being charged with stock fraud. Doesn't make his shoes any less beautiful, but if you're interested, check out this story...
