Yes, I'm showered and even fully dressed. The day is progressing slowly but is progressing. And I'm enjoying keeping you all up to date on my personal habits...probably more than you're enjoying hearing about them. I've had some tea, but not nearly enough. Eleni Mandell's on the stereo now, "No Good, No More." I love Eleni Mandell--everyone should check her out. She's got a very interesting sound.
Another dating discovery. I'm very bad at sending out signals. I'm great online, but once I'm there in person with someone, I'm not so great at sending the signals that say "I'm attracted to you." The signals that say "I'm interested in you" I think I'm ok at. But I'm working on the other. You have to do the touching thing, touch him on the arm, leg, etc. when talking or getting up to go to the ladies room, or whatever. That's a big one. I'm bad with the eye contact, too, when you're getting to the point where it's supposed to be romantic and you're supposed to be gazing into each other's eyes...I get really nervous and when I'm nervous, it's hard to make eye contact. Once again, let me remind you, I have dated quite a bit now and for 14 years I've had boyfriends but I still get nervous at this point. Guys, take note. Women aren't always as confident as you think we are, nor are we as much in control of the situation as you fear we are. We're often floundering a little too. Just FYI.
Online Dating Tip #4
More about photos. Don't use a photo taken in a portrait studio. It's always obvious that's where the photo came from, due to the cheesy backdrops they use. And you will always look posed. It's much better to use a candid shot that someone took of you recently having a good time. Or to take a picture of yourself with the self-timer on your camera. Or to have a friend do a little impromptu photo shoot with you in your house or at a park or at the beach or wherever you feel comfortable and happy. You're going to look a lot more natural and feel a lot more comfortable in that situation. That stuff really comes through to your potential dates and you'll see the difference in the responses you get. And smile!
