Basically I expected this film to be a female Big. And basically, it was. But it's so sweet.
Jennifer Garner plays a 13 year old who, after trying to be accepted by the popular girls and being mean to her best male friend at her birthday party, suddenly wakes up in the life of her 30 year old self. She's a successful magazine woman, working at her 13 year old self's favorite fashion magazine. Of course she's totally lost in her adult world and seeks out her 13 year old best friend who of course is also now 30 (Mark Rufalo--yum!). However, Mark isn't so thrilled to see her, due to the rift in their relationship that occurred after the night she was mean to him.
I loved this film. It's not brilliant, it's not deep or innovative. But it's a lot of fun. The characters are entertaining and well-acted. It's got a ridiculous sub-plot involving reinventing the magazine, but otherwise it's simply charming. I always want to hate Jennifer Garner but I just can't. And Mark Rufalo remains inexplicably hot and just the sweetest thing in this film. If you're a dater, this is a great date movie. If you're a hopeless romantic, this is a great HR movie. Just see it.Posted by Alyssa at May 02, 2004 08:04 PM
