At
the turn of the Millennium a young boy and his mother wake up a dragon
who's been asleep for centuries. 20 years later the world is overgrown
with dragons who now outnumber humans and burn all vegetation or humans
they come upon (they feed on ash). There's nothing magical about this
movie; it's a basic bad guys/good guys kind of film--with really cool
effects. It's sort of like Jurassic Park with really evil dinosaurs
who breathe fire. Matthew McConaughey plays an over-the-top American
military guy who knows how to kill the dragons. Watching him chomp on
a cigar and eye-ing his sweaty bulging biceps is only worth a bit of
the ticket price. The real draw is Christian Bale, moody, dark, and
also sweaty playing the man who's trying to keep his small colony of
human survivors alive. The movie actually has a great post-apocalyptic
feel to it, Christian's got his role nailed, and they don't go too far
with the obligatory romance that's only hinted at. And did I say the
dragons are really cool? Well worth $10 and 2 hours.
